A Study On English Complements As Used In "Time Magazine"


This study discusses English complements. It focuses on the classes and forms of complements in sentence constructions. This research is descriptive in nature. It was conducted through the following steps: collecting, arranging, classifying and analyzing the data. The data were obtained from Time magazine of February 2014. The population of this research was all of the sentences containing complements within the sentences. To get the sample, this research applied total sampling technique. The result of data analysis showed that the complements in terms of their classes include nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbals. Among them, the most dominant complements are noun phrases, while the least common ones are adverbs. Due to their form, complements are words, phrases and clauses. In this case, phrases are the highest frequency in use, while clauses are the lowest.
